Message from outgoing Chairman, Col G
S Sandhu (Retd) I retired from the
army in 1980. And returned to my ancestral village , Pahuwind, Punjab, which
happens to be the birth place of most revered Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Ji who became a martyr fighting the Mughal Forces at
the age of 76 in 1657 AD. Sadly, I
realised that there were no worthwhile education facilities for the youth of
the indo-pak border area. I dreamed of establishing an English medium School
and initially I opened a Punjab Board School in 2006. With no existing
infrastructure, land measuring about 9 acres was acquired on lease of 30 years.
Slowly, with the help of local donations etc. Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Public School
started functioning and each year a new class was added. Overtime CBSE affiliation
up to class 10 was obtained in 2013. We have grown from strength to strength. There being few
opportunities in the area, many students, both boys and girls, have emigrated
abroad for higher studies and many have obtained Permanent resident status in
countries mainly in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc. The Shaheed
Baba Deep Singh Public School has achieved laurels both in sports and
academics. Ever since affiliation upto class 10th board pass results
have been over 90% and twice in 2016 and 2020 it has been 100%. If affiliation
is granted up to the 12th, the school will do even better as students
will not have to leave for other distant and expensive CBSE schools. I wish the
incoming Chairman Cmdr. Ranbir Singh and the school staff, students the best of
luck and success in life.
